On May 30, 2011 the German Radiological Society has purchased the historic building of Wilhelm C. Röntgen's birthplace home for the symbolic prize of 1 Euro from the city of Remscheid. The purchase is linked to the obligation to restore the house and make it open to the public. The reconstruction works will start in autumn 2012 and will probably last three years.
